Reiter Trails

The Reiter Trails is a wide ranging 4x4 area that is accessed near the Reiter Pitt near Goldbar. A popular destination (its close to Seattle) is the Lake Isabel trail.

The Lake Isabel trail is north of Goldbar, off of Rt. 2. This route runs from Everett to the Cascade Mountain Range via Steven's Pass. The trail starts near the Reiter clay pit. Unfortunately the trail does not run all the way up to Lake Isabel. It kind of peters out at an old mine shaft just north of a small waterfall. Be careful crossing this waterfall: Any bad mistake here will result in a sideways rollover that will drop you hundreds of feet! Most of the trail is fairly easy until you cross the log bridge. After the bridge there is a steep climb over a mass of rocks, stumps and massive boulders. This can be a real challenge, especially when wet, which it often is. The Isabel trail is handy for testing out new modifications to one's rig as it is a reasonable drive from Seattle. There are a lot of small trails dotted throughout the area. It is also a very popular with the dirt bike crowd. The future of this area for the off-road community is always uncertain. It should be noted that various off-road groups regularly organize massive clean-ups of the never ending illegal dumping that goes on in these hills. One wonders who will haul the trash, abandoned junk and vehicles out of there if the off-road community is not allowed to enjoy the area any more...
